Call Of Duty: Black Ops II Earns $500 Million On Launch Date

Activision revealed that COD: Black Ops II sales record has broken all the previous records achieved by the franchise. In the first 24 hours upon launch, it has earned $500 million. This is not only the biggest among COD series but also is the highest such figure of 2012. The figure is more than twice the first 24-hour revenue of Halo 4.

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said, “With first day sales of over half a billion dollars worldwide, we believe Call of Duty is the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth year in a row.” In a press release, it was also confirmed that the total sales of the Call of Duty series has exceeded the box office total for Harry Potter and Star Wars movie franchise. Recently, Microsoft’s Halo 4 was able to rack up $220 millions on its 1st day, where COD: Black Ops II earned more than twice. Not only that, it also surpassed the sales record of COD: MW3 which earned $400 million from 6.5 million copies on the release date. The previous part of Black Ops had an opening of $360 millions coming from the sales of 5.6 million copies.

The plot of Black Ops II is set at the futuristic setting of 2025. David Mason, son of Alex Mason – the hero of Black Ops, is the lead character in the game. The past of Mackarov plays a significant role in the game.
