EA Adds Price Tag On ‘Plants vs Zombies 2’ Lawnmowers, Later Recalls

Plants vs Zombies is one of the most wildly popular gaming line-up from EA for mobile devices. The company recently added a price tag on the lawnmowers in ‘Plants vs Zombies 2‘, although the move was soon reverted.

Plants vs Zombies 2

Plants vs Zombies 2 is typically a freemium game which originally came with a lot of free game-play and some premium features. The free play was enough to hook up any avid gamer without him requiring to purchase the paid stuff.

The free game-play involves defending your lawn against the influx of zombies. This is done with the help of different plants, which are your key defenses and keep bombing the zombies to avoid them from reaching to your side of the lawn. If the worst comes to worst, you have a last-ditch tool in the form of lawnmowers who mow through the zombies all over the lawn and secure your defenses.

The game is a lot fun and is quite addictive. However, a lot of Plants vs Zombies 2 gamers were chagrined recently when EA slapped a price tag on the lawnmowers in the basic game-play. This was evidently a surprising move and the internet immediately lashed back with criticism and anger. As a result, users of this game went to Reddit and certain gaming blogs to cite their anger and frustration.

Interestingly, the decision was soon recanted by EA and a spokesperson for the game developer stated, “We are always testing new features in Plants vs. Zombies 2. The lawnmower feature noted by some players was part of a small-scale test and is now over.” But the whole episode looks more like a botched attempt to put a premium on the free gameplay of the franchise.
