After a lot of anticipation and wait, Sony finally lifted the wraps from its new game console, PlayStation 4, at an event yesterday. During the event, we were promised that a second screen option for Android tablets running PS4 games will be landing shortly. Sony has lived up to this promise by releasing new PS4 iOS and Android apps.
The new app released by the company comes equipped with a second screen option. With the help of the app, gamers can turn their smartphones and tablets into secondary screen controllers, which is what many avid gamers have been eagerly waiting for.
Moreover, the app allows gamers to download different games on their PS4 even if they are on the move. This is certainly a sweet feature. Sony is yet to divulge any more details about the app. For instance, whether or not a given gamer will be able to view the performance stats of other gamers remains to be seen.
We are also waiting to see what other aspect of social interactions Sony is packing in the app. With the second-screen functionality, it is kind of inevitable that the company would try to push in more social features and turn the gaming experience into a truly social experience.
According to the official press release from Sony, “A new application from SCE called “PlayStation®App” will enable iPhone, iPad, and Android based smartphones and tablets to become second screens. Once installed on these devices, users can, for example, see maps on their second screens when playing an adventure game, purchase PS4 games while away from home and download it directly to the console at home, or remotely watch other gamers playing on their devices.”
