Sony is really pepping up things for the launch of PlayStation Vita. The company’s new device, when Sony unveiled it, was hailed at too little, too late by many. But apparently, Sony has all plans to change that perception. I guess with a marketing campaign having a budget of $50 million, scores of such people may change their mind by the time Sony plans to finally launch it in US and Europe. $50 million marketing campaign for one single device will perhaps be among the most expensive marketing campaigns carried out in our days.
This kind of budget is a first even at Sony. Sony has never allocated such a huge amount of money for a single piece of hardware. But as it is, the company’s future course in the gaming industry seems to lean heavily on Playstation Vita. And the executives at Sony are highly cognizant of this critical juncture.
Sony hasn’t announced so far that what amounts of this huge budget will be spent in marketing the device at US and what of it will go to spread the news to European users. What we expect is that a major part will be funnelled into an aggressive campaign targeting US customers since Sony already has a good base at European markets. If indeed Sony is able to break into the US market well enough, that will be a huge success.
The device is all set to launch in US and Europe on February 22. The device had been launched in Japan already where it hasn’t been a success story.
