Nintendo Wii U sales left behind the early sales record of other high-end consoles, such as PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, within the first week. However, the record is still steps behind the first week sales record of original Wii. It also lags behind expected sales volume in the debut week. Figure shows that it is approaching the milestone gradually at a generous pace.
Nintendo has declared that the first-week sales volume was about 400,000 Wii U units in the U.S. It is obviously less than the figure of original Wii sales in the first week. That time, Wii got a record sales of over 600,000 units in 1 week period. This record is still undefeated. According to NPD report, 326,000 units of Xbox 360 sold in first two weeks after its debut in the U.S., and 197,000 units of PlayStation 3 was sold in the first two weeks after its release. The sales figure of Wii U is higher than that of both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Although, the sales record is not as high as expected, Nintendo Wii U has secured a healthy sales in the first week after its release. If it goes as this pace, it is expected that by the end of March, 2013, it will cross the 5.5 million mark. Moreover, the Nintendo Wii U will soon make its debut in Europe and Japan, which will give a further boast to its sale.
