Apple’s iPhone has been expanding its influence in the most lucrative smartphone market in the world, the U.S. The device first landed on one of the largest wireless carriers in U.S., namely AT&T. Within no time, it was then available with nearly all the major carriers in the region.
The interesting part is that an unlocked, prepaid version of iPhone is also being offered by Cricket Wireless, something that has enticed many. However, the list is by no means exhausted and more are joining ranks to the iPhone bandwagon.
For instance, the latest to hit the list is Sprint’s prepaid carrier, namely Virgin Mobile. Virgin Mobile will be offering a prepaid iPhone, the second carrier to have done so. We are not very clear about the sales prospects of a prepaid iPhone but since the iPhone will also be unlocked, that can make up a major selling point for the carrier.
According to report, Sprint has to pay Apple a whopping sum of $15.5 billion for carrying the iPhone. And apparently, the carrier is now trying to devise more novel and creative ways to generate more revenue from its iPhone. The price tag for Virgin Mobile’s prepaid iPhone is expected to be somewhere at $499, gauged by contemporary prices.
Moreover, its not clear yet as to what models will be offered by Virgin Mobile. The unlocked prepaid iPhone will be available from July 1st.
