First Intel Atom Based Smartphones To Go On Sale From April 23

Rumor was that the first Intel Atom based smartphones from Indian mobile phone maker Lava would go on sale from today. But it seems that consumers have to wait a bit more. The Intel Atom based Lava XOLO X900 will come to market on 23 April, according to a press release from Intel.

The partnership between Intel and Lava was announced on Mobile World Congress in February. It is already showing great prospects at the brink of the device launch. The launch will materialize Intel’s long waited entry into the smartphone market with its x86 architecture based processor.

Lava has signed a contract with Croma for the promotion and sale of the XOLO X900 in India. The device is expected to be sold at around INR 22000.

The XOLO X900 is based on Intel’s smartphone reference design featuring Intel Atom processor Z2460. The device comes with 4.03 inch LCD touch screen with a 400 MHz graphics clock for high resolution image and 1080p video playback support.  XOLO X900 supports 3G HSPA+ connectivity options for superior browsing experience. The smarphone comes with preinstalled Android Gingerbread, with a planned over-the-air upgrade to Android Ice Cream Snadwich or Android 4.0.

Though Intel processor based smartphones from Lava are launching in India first, Intel has plans to launch similar devices in other regions with different vendors. Hence, we have to wait some more to see how successful Intel will be at the smartphone market.
