Google recently launched its new Nexus 7 slate, packed with better specs and a very impressive display. Now, rumors have it that Apple is expected to launch new versions of iPad and iPad mini tablets by the end of this year, in an attempt to counter the competition from new Nexus slate.
Google’s new Nexus 7 tablet has proved quite a success ever since its launch. Although users have reported some problems in it, the overall response has been positive and its sales are apparently strong.
It must be noted here that the new Nexus 7 packs a display resolution that is far higher than the current-generation iPad mini. The new Nexus 7’s display clocks at 216 pixels per inch (PPI) whereas that of iPad mini is 163 PPI. Apple’s larger slate, the 9.7-inch iPad on the other hand, packs a display with 264 PPI.
In view of this, it is understandable that Apple needs to launch new tablets soon so as to stay in the competition. According to reports, the company will be using displays from Samsung, LG and Sharp in its upcoming iPad offerings. It is also being claimed that the upcoming standard-sized iPad will feature a similar design as the iPad mini, with the rounded corners and thin profile.
To ensure that the new iPad tablets feature thinner profiles, Apple may end up using Samsung’s super-thin glass technology in the displays. Amazon is also expected to ramp up the competition in the tablet market by releasing a new Kindle model with a high-definition display and improved specs.
