RIM s working on a media hub that could rival Apple TV and supposedly code-named the BlackBerry Cyclone, the device would plug into your telly via HDMI and fill your living room with glorious televisual wonder, funnelling movies and TV shows over your home Wi-Fi connection. BlackBerry Cyclone will reportedly come with YouTube and Netflix built in and there’s every chance the UK will wind up with different companies supplying the content. And BlackBerry Cyclone will launch in the autumn………………
RIM working on BlackBerry-branded Apple TV clone and now there are reports that it’s codenamed Cyclone and will likely feature Netflix. BlackBerry Cyclone is rumored to run on the same QNX OS as the PlayBook and the upcoming superphone. It will take the form of a compact set-top box and be a mix between the BlackBerry Presenter and the Apple TV. But without its own media download store like iTunes, the Cyclone will rely on third-party services. Sources tip that the device would at a minimum support YouTube and Netflix. Other specs on the set-top box are scant other than having an HDMI-out and WiFi connectivity and it is part of RIM‘s overall strategy to create a broader ecosystem that will work in harmony with its PlayBook and future smartphones. BlackBerry Cyclone looks like a larger version of BlackBerry Presenter and the release of the BlackBerry Cyclone will be later this fall.
