Indonesia Blocks 1 Million Pornographic Sites, Plans To Continue Operation

The largest Islamic nation in the world, Indonesia, has started censoring pornographic websites from last Thursday. The move is set to block 1 million porn sites during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. According to the ministry this ban can last well after the Ramadan.


The holy month of Ramadan starts today. The month is considered by the Muslims as of heavy religious significance. During the whole of the month, Muslims will practice fasting and refrain from dawn until sunset from eating, drinking, sexual encounter and some other forbidden activities.

The Indonesian government has started the process of blocking pornographic sites, which they believe amounts around 2 billion sites around the world, ahead of Ramadan. Authorities said that the move will continue throughout Ramadan. And, they have expressed their intention to block these sites from now on.

The communication Minister Tifatul Sembiring said, “We will block more porn sites during Ramadan, though that doesn’t mean that we will allow such sites to operate during the rest of the year.”
