Meebo Discontinues After Google Acquisition

We reported earlier that the search engine giant, Google, was gearing up to acquire Meebo. The speculation turned out to be spot-on as Google acquired the start-up earlier this week. We have been waiting for some after-effects of this acquisition to manifest and now, they are here. Meebo has announced that it will be abandoning a number of its products.

The products that have been axed by Meebo include:

Meebo Messenger:
Meebo Messenger has been a fairly popular product but given the huge significance of social media, the important of all kinds of messengers have indeed diminished. The company has announced that it will be abandoning its Messenger from July 11th, 2012. The good news for the users of the messenger are that they can download their chat log history from https://www.meebo.com/chatlog-download.

Meebo Sharing:
Sharing on Meebo has been used by users in the past to connect with their interests online. Again, Meebo has announced that it will be discontinuing this product after July 11th, 2012. Users have time till this date to sign in to their Meebo accounts and download their entire share history.

Meebo Me:
Meebo Me widgets are quite popular among Meebo users. However, the widgets will no longer be functional after July 11. Still, the user will require to remove the code of the widgets from their pages.

Meebo MobileĀ  Apps:
The company is shutting down all of its mobile apps. These include the Meebo app for BlackBerry, Android and iPhone.

Probably a far better option for such users who don’t have any valuable data on their Meebo accounts is to delete their accounts once and for all. This can be done at this link: meebo.com/support/deleteaccount/
