Facebook News Feed is a constantly updating list of stories from people and Pages that you follow on Facebook. News feed stories include status updates, photos, videos, links, app activity and likes. However, lately it’s been reported that Facebook is now looking for “Editors” for its News App. The editors tell the Facebook users which news they should be reading.
Two people familiar with Facebook’s plan have mentioned that over the past few months, Facebook has sought to hire contract editors to staff up Paper (Facebook’s secret project which will deliver its users a mix of rich news stories from publications), which has been under construction for years. The editors will oversee around ten different news verticals on a wide range of topics, curating a mix of the “best stories” within each particular subject area for users to see. In other words, the Paper editors will be able to select and feature stories that media outlets have already published on Facebook.
The sources have indicated that the project is incentive for publishers to post more of their content to Facebook, thereby increasing the likelihood of a story being featured in the Paper app. On the other hand, according to Mark Zuckerberg, Paper will be “the best personalized newspaper in the world,” but it is unclear, what is Facebook’s goal for Paper.
However, the sources have mentioned that Paper will be released in January. Until now, it’s not been released, but it may come in the coming weeks. As Facebook has confirmed nothing yet, so when the company was asked to say something about it, Facebook clearly declined.
