Foursquare’s New Check-In App ‘Swarm’ Is Available Now

Foursquare has released its new check-in app ‘Swarm‘, as declared. The brand new app has been launched on iOS App Store and Google Play to let you check into places and let you know what your friends are doing.

At the beginning of this month, Foursquare announced splitting the services into two different apps. Swarm has arrived to shape off the check-in and differentiate the features of the original app. In its blog, the company said, “We built Swarm because you’ve told us how often you still have to text your friends: “where are you?” and “what are you up to later?” We wanted to build a quick way for you to know these two things for all of your friends. With Swarm, you can easily see which of your friends are out nearby, figure out who is up for grabbing a drink later, and share what you’re up to (faster and more easily than you can in Foursquare today).

Swarm lets you check-into places like previous Foursquare app and at the same time, it lets you automatically share your neighborhood. Don’t worry, there is privacy option which lets you choose who would be able to see neighborhood and who wouldn’t. You can also totally switch off automatic neighborhood sharing.

About neighborhood sharing, the company mentioned, “It’s late and you’re finishing dinner, but you’re still up for something. Instead of texting all of your friends to see who’s around, we created an easy way to see who’s nearby in Swarm. We call it neighborhood sharing. When you turn it on, friends in your city can see if you’re in the neighborhood. And when they have it on, you can see when they’re close. So you never miss out when something could be happening.”

Swarm brings some brand new features like stickers which you can attach with your check-in akin to emoji. By using this stickers, you can share your mode with friends. As we already had mentioned in our previous article, now one place can have multiple mayors among different friend groups.

Swarm Plan allows you to make quick plan with your friends who are nearby that time. You just type ‘Who is up for burger for lunch?’ It will push up to your nearby friends and then they can quickly reply.

In spite of that, Foursquare original app also got updated with some new features and it’s more faster now. The company said, they will be fiddling with the knobs on them over the coming weeks to get them just right.
