Pakistanis unable to deal with the sea of filth and blasphemy that it Facebook have created their own alternative.
“Millatfacebook is Pakistan’s very own, first social networking site,” says the site. “A site for Muslims by Muslims where sweet people of other religions are also welcome!”
“There may be thousand and one things on which we can show tolerance, but on such a delicate issue we cannot afford to show any latitude to anyone, anywhere, whatsoever,” says the website.
“Let’s prove to the world that if we can generate revenue for Facebook.com then we can also run our own website. Prove to the world that we are independent Muslims who don’t rely on such websites which insult our beloved prophet Muhammad.”
Millatfacebook is very similar in appearance and structure to Facebook, although rather more limited in terms of features – its designers say they are working to improve it.
It has over 4,000 members already, mostly in Pakistan, although there are others as far flung as the US, the UK, Russia and China. The name, Millat, is an Urdu word meaning the Muslim creed.
