EA Sports is bringing their popular Madden NFL series of football video games to Facebook. EA Sports President Peter Moore confirmed Bloomberg, though the launching date is unknown.
Moore confirmed that the FB version will be more simpler than the console version. “We have to make ‘Madden’ more accessible,” Moore said in an interview with Bloomberg Television. “You’ll see us on Facebook going forward.”
Facebook games are a big deal these days. FarmVille and Mafia Wars developer Zynga just raised $180 million in funding. The news that established long-time video game franchise Civilization is coming to Facebook this summer has gotten a lot of press and interest, too.
The world’s second-largest video-game publisher purchased Playfish Inc., the maker of “Pet Society” and “Restaurant City,” for $400 million last year. Chief Executive Officer John Riccitiello has said the company aims to generate more sales from games played online and on mobile devices.
EA launched Madden NFL 2010 for the video game consoles just in time for the Super Bowl, so hype for the brand is already high right now. This was a good time for the company to let this news slip out.
