Google keeps working on many different products and services. While some of these are finalized and launched eventually, many never make it to the public. Rumors have it that the search giant is now working on a new web application called ‘Google Mine.’
Google Mine is essentially an application that lets you create a catalog of your personal belongings. You can list down all the notable stuff that is a part of your personal belongings and then share the list with your friends online.
Not only does Google Mine let you share the list of such items, it also allows users to share their personal belongings with their friends. In other words, it is kind of a real-world lending service.
If the rumors prove true, we would be looking forward to such a Google service. However, Google Mine has both pros and cons. Its pros are that in the case of a disaster or any other emergency situation, people can rely on each other to find out the exact items they need and then borrow them.
However, at the same time, Google will have to devise some kind of a mechanism to encourage people to both, lend stuff and return stuff if borrowed. Also, many may cite privacy concerns over the creation of such catalogs, so the service ought to be optional once it arrives. This way, such users who are not comfortable about sharing the list of their personal belongings can simply opt out of it.
