Chinese Hackers Attack Microsoft’s Indian Store

Hacker groups are quite busy making headlines these days. Apparently the Chinese group “Evil Shadow Team” decided it might be an act of extreme power and superiority if they would hack the Indian version of the Microsoft store www.microsoftstore.co.in. So they did it. They also posted a semi offensive message on the website that read: “unsafe system will be baptized”.

The site is now offline, but what’s worst is that a list of usernames and passwords of registered user accounts has been released. The information was reportedly stored in plain text, without no attempt of encrypting them somehow, therefore making the hackers’ job extremely easy. (and fun apparently)

If users try to the access the site at this particular moment, they would be greeted by the following message:” The Microsoft Store India is currently unavailable. Microsoft is working to restore access as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

Following the hack, a spokesperson for Microsoft has emerged saying that the company is handling its own investigation related to the limited compromise of the company’s online store in India. The store’s users have been notified of the issues and have been sent instructions in order to keep their information from not leaking. We’re hoping that the software giant will be learning something from this hack and stop being so causal about handing the user details by storing them in plain and easily accessible text files.
