A lot of hacking news are surfacing these days with a lot of online accounts compromised. However, on the list now is not an ordinary user but none other than Mitt Romney. Although it is not confirmed that whether or not his account was hacked, authorities are looking into the matter.
It was first reported by the popular website Gawker, citing an anonymous hacker which has claimed that he was able to correctly guess the answer to the security question of Romney’s hotmail account. This way, he was then able to access Romney’s hotmail account, the password to which he then changed.
Moreover, the hacker also claimed that he was able to hack Mitt Romney’s Dropbox account. Romney’s campaign representatives say that they are well aware of the situation and that they have the authorities looking into it. Meanwhile, the said account is no longer receiving emails and those emails who are being sent are returned as ‘undeliverable.’
In the past, other popular political figures have also faced similar instances. For instance, back in 2008, Sara Palin’s private emails were accessed by a college student who was eventually convicted of crime for having done so.
The email id that has purportedly been hacked is mittromney[at]hotmail[dot]com. Although it is a private email account, Romney has also used it for business purposes. Another possibility is that Romney may have abandoned his Hotmail account. According to Microsoft, inactive Hotmail accounts are closed if they remain inactive for 270 consecutive days.
Right now its unclear that whether the account was hacked or that it has been disabled. We will keep you posted on the updates.
