Android Still King Of The US Smartphone Market

As Android continues to dominate U.S. smartphone market share month after month, a new report argues that this momentum will be the key to saving Motorola and it is that rapid growth and popularity which could be the key to save flagging Motorola Mobility, which was purchased last week, according to a new report from the NPD Group. Android currently holds 52 percent of the smartphone market as of the end of the second quarter of 2011 and there’s been some concern voiced about how Google might treat its other Android partners now that it has an actual device maker under in its tent, but NPD doesn’t think that’ll be a problem and Google has said publically that things wouldn’t change with its partners……………….

iPad 3 Displays To Be Supplied By 3 Major Suppliers

Apple is continuing to piece together its iPad 3 supply chain, which is now said to include three primary LCD makers that will supply the device’s much-anticipated Retina display and pple has lined up three display makers including LG Display, Samsung, and Sharp with LG being the biggest supplier, despite the recent issues Apple has had with the company’s iPad 2 displays. Apple will reportedly tap Taiwan-based Radiant Opto-Electronics to become the major supplier of backlight units (BLUs) for the device and it will reportedly supply over half of the BLUs required by LG and all of the BLUs needed by Samsung……………..

Apple’s manufacturing plans an 8 GB version of the iPhone 4 to launch this fall and is currently in production in Korea. An intriguing piece from TheNextWeb claims that HP’s WebOS tablet operating system runs significantly faster on the Apple iPad 2 compared to HP’s own Touchpad tablet and webOS operating system was running over twice as fast on its rival’s iPad 2 tablet. It may seem strange that the 1.2GHz chip inside the TouchPad was so easily outclassed by the slower clocked A5 and Apple’s chip is sporting faster Cortex-A9 architecture, while HP relied on Qualcomm’s slower A8-based Snapdragon……………

Apple To Invest $1 Billion In Sharp For iPad And iPhone Displays

A rumor that Apple is planning to invest $1 billion in a new Sharp factory for building screens for its iPhone and iPad products has resurfaced, which is just days after a separate report claimed that the next-generation iPad has been delayed in part because of production constraints from the supplier and LCD displays have reportedly been a limiting factor for both the original iPad and the second-generation model. In June Sharp announced it would be shifting its focus from TV displays to small and medium-sized panels at one of its major plants, which is light of the growing smartphone and tablet sectors and Apple was reportedly very disappointed with its LCD suppliers in the first half of this year…………..
