When Apple was awarded $1 billion against Samsung over patent infringement charges, many had thought that this may mark the end of the legal battle between the two and establish Apple as the winner. However, that was not to be. A US District Judge has now cut down the $1 billion verdict by $450 million.
Taking a moral high ground is a tricky business. Especially when this is done publicly, you must have sufficient reasons to cite yourself as morally superior before criticizing someone for being morally devoid. So seems to be the case with Florian Mueller’s criticism of the UK judge who decided in favor of Samsung in the Apple-Samsung case over patent issues.
Apple may still be the undisputed champion of the smartphone arena but Samsung has been catching up fast. Especially with its Galaxy smartphone line-up, Samsung has been able to significantly bolster its sales. Now, the company is planning the unveiling of Galaxy S4 come March 14, together with some sort of a Times Square event.
Samsung has lifted the wraps from its new mobile app, Samsung Wallet. The new app essentially serves the same functionality as is offered by Apple in Passbook. Putting aside the similarities in their features, the new app also seems to have borrowed a lot of its look and feel from Passbook.
U.S. Cellular hopes to cover 87% of its customers under LTE coverage by this year. To make its LTE network lucrative to users, U.S. Cellular has start shipping Samsung’s 4G LTE Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE with different data plans. U.S. Cellular also has a line-up of 4G LTE devices that includes Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Galaxy Note II and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
As of this moment, a number of TV guide apps are available on the mobile platform. Some of them are vendor-specific, such as those offered by Netflix etc; others are more generic. However, Samsung has come up with its own offering, namely the ‘Video Discovery app’ which makes searching content across multiple listings a lot easier and quicker.
South Korean tech giant Samsung has announced Samsung Knox, an end-to-end security solution at the MWC 2013 that provides security hardening from the hardware to the application layer. The best thing of Knox is it offers a container solution that separates business and personal use of a mobile device.
Last year a rumor swirled that Samsung was planning to shut down development of its Bada OS and the company would start focusing on its open-source Linux-based OS – Tizen. Finally that rumor has turned into reality. Samsung has officially announced that it aims to allocate resources from Bada to Tizen, whilst helping developers with the transition.
