Toyota Unveils Nintendo DS Controlled Navigation System In Japan

Toyota has unveiled a tool which enables motorists to control their vehicle’s navigation system using a Nintendo DS. The new tool, called Kuruma de DS, has recently been shown off at a press conference in Tokyo. Basically, it works with Toyota’s new Smart Navi system, using a DS cartridge that can connect with the car manufacturer’s Smart Navi system via Bluetooth.

Toyota Announced Production Of Prius Plug-In Hybrid

Toyota officially unveils production Prius plug-in hybrid, available March 2012 for $32,000 and the Chevrolet Volt has stolen a lot of thunder from the Prius in the media coverage department, but Prius sales are still continuing strong. The plug-in aims to retain some of those buyers and offer the large existing pool of Prius customers an enhanced option from Toyota and also gains a new lithium-ion battery pack, ditching the older NIMH technology of the standard cars. The plug-in Prius can operate in electric-vehicle (EV) mode for an estimated 15 miles at a speed of up to 62 miles per hour and the plug-in will switch to hybrid mode, providing an estimated 49 miles per gallon. Toyota Smashes EV Record On Nurburgring

Toyota Motorsport Group’s PV001 EV set a record for fastest electric vehicle on the Nürburgring Nordschleife and this beats the previous electric car time by a healthy margin and puts Toyota’s electric racer on par with the lap times recorded by vehicles like the Nissan GT-R and Porsche 911 Turbo, but is still a ways off the any-powertrain-goes record of 6:48. The just-bested EV record was set by Peugeot’s EX1 earlier this year at 9.01:33 and the EX1 averaged a rather impressive 85.9 miles per hour on the grueling track. Toyota hopes the victory will bring new awareness to electric racing and perhaps to help sell custom race cars in the future and the project is a valuable chance to test high-performance electric powertrains in a real motorsport environment, giving TMG’s engineer’s a chance to learn more about cooling, battery performance, motor performance, durability, etc……………
