25% Americans Don’t Know That Earth Revolves Around The Sun

Today, America is the face of the latest advancements in many fields of modern science. In that context, the results of a recent survey have shockingly found that nearly 25% Americans don’t know that Earth revolves around the Sun.

The survey was conducted by the National Science Foundation and included more than 2200 respondents from around U.S. It comprised of ten questions about basic biological and physical science.

Interestingly, nearly 50% of the survey respondents stated that they found astrology to be either ‘very scientific’ or ‘sort of scientific.’ Somewhat more alarming was the finding that a mere 48% knew that science establishes the evolution of human from other species.

The responses of the survey participants towards the astrology question are very significant. According to the 2014 Science and Engineering Indicators study, “Fewer Americans rejected astrology in 2012 than in recent years. In 2012, slightly more than half of Americans said that astrology was ‘not at all scientific,’ whereas nearly two thirds gave this response in 2010. The comparable percentage has not been this low since 1983.”

This study, and many other indicators, hint that astrology has found more acceptance among the American public as a proper science. People are increasingly inclined to consider that even when they may not understand it, astrology somehow has basis in science. The 18 – 24 age bracket especially seems ready to believe in the authenticity of astrology, which is a very intriguing trend in itself.

On the brighter side, 90% of the respondents were positive that the benefits of science outweigh its dangers and nearly as many cited their eagerness to learn about new medical discoveries. You can read the complete report here.
