Climate, all across the world, is changing rather drastically. From floods to earthquakes and droughts, the world is witnessing one catastrophe after another. And many analysts ardently believe that this is the direct outcome of global warming which, in turn, is happening due to increased carbon emissions.
The rather sad fact is that so far, there is no concerted efforts by the global community to fight off global warming by raising environmental awareness. There are a number of non-profit organizations working on this but none has been able to gain a traction sufficient to force the world to think.
The future forecasts of weather in different parts of the world are equally abysmal and depressing. US recently witnessed some of the worst droughts recently. And that, by no means, is an isolated incident. Rather, according to analysts, such droughts are expected to become a norm for the US over the course of the next 100 years.
The Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change has endeavoured to predict different climactic settings in the future, based on the projections of its climate model. The findings of the panel predict that the frequency as well as the severity of the droughts is going to get worse in the coming years.
The blame for all of this lies on increased carbon emission in the environment which, in turn, is the result of poor industrial practices. Even some of the most developed nations are at the forefront of polluting the environment and releasing carbon into it, thus significantly impacting the climate.
Impacts of drought and prediction of a mega-drought
Environmental researchers and experts are predicting an unusual ‘megadrought’ which will hit the American West in the looming future. This megadrought can drag on for decades, making life in the region somewhat of a nightmare. It can also pose serious risks to water resources in the American West, making them scarce.
All this is imminent if we continue our march towards a polluted, warm and carbon-ridden planet. We still have some time to improve our industrial practices and adopt more environment-friendly measures. This is not the problem of a select few – rather, the problem is shared by every single person on this planet. Because, global warming and the consequent climatic changes are going to impact the entire planet. And that is precisely why, each one of us has to be concerned about it and take practical steps to mitigate it.
