Apple’s Lightning Cable Authentication Chip Teared Down By Chipworks

The new Lightning cable introduced with iPhone 5 is much smaller than its 30-pin predecessor. Reportedly, the Lightning cable has an authentication chip aimed to stop use of third-party accessories with iPhone 5. A recent teardown of the Lightning connector by Chipworks finally revealed the mystery chip. It is an unannounced Texas Instrument (in short, TI) chip that is believed to behold the new authentication feature.

Apple Employs Amazon A9 Search Executive To Run Siri

According to reports, Apple has just nabbed Amazon A9 search executive, William Stasior, to take charge of the company’s Siri department. At Amazon, Stasior ran its A9 division, responsible for Amazon’s search and search advertising units. At Apple, Saisor will cover all new ground with the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad’s voice assistant, Siri. As we head into the future it will be interesting to see what type of changes Stasior brings to the table.

Apple Retail Stores To Deploy Passbook Support Soon

Apple’s Passbook application launched last month with iOS 6 and we’ve seen many companies supporting it. The stunning part of the whole situation is Apple hasn’t even deployed Passbook usage at its own retail outlets yet. That’s about to change though. Because, later this month, Apple will update its retail store payment system, Easypay, to support Passbook cards.

Survey Indicates Apple Maps Issues Aren’t A Huge Ordeal

If you thought Apple Maps were horrible, think again, a survey taken in September proves that Apple’s new mapping application isn’t all too bad. I’ve used Apple Maps to travel an exceptional five-hundred miles and not once was I brought off track due to a misplaced street or blurry graphic. ChangeWave, a market researching firm, released data following their 4,270 consumer survey to comfort my point.

Thieves Used Stolen Car To Smash Apple Store And Steal Products

Seems like thieves have a particular attraction for Apple products. In the middle of September, two thieves slammed a BMW car into an Apple Store and stole a bunch of iPhone and iPad. One month later, on October 12, a different group stole a car, smashed it into Kansas Apple Store and took away some Apple products.

Apple To Pay SBB For Using Iconic Swiss Clock Design In iOS 6

Apple has just reached a licensing deal with Swiss National Railway (in short, SBB) for the use of iconic Swiss clock design in iOS 6’s Clock application. Mergard served at AMD in the capacities of vice president and chief engineer, but recently left to work at Samsung.
