Earlier today an article titled ‘Eric Schmidt Is Right: Google’s Glory Days Are Numbered’ caught my attention on TechCrunch. The author argued how Siri, a virtual personal assistant incorporated with iPhone starting from 4S generation, is going to be the next big thing on search engine business by transforming devices from “passive” participants in the search process to “active” ones. It is when I was reading that article the question hit me – what is really going to be the next big thing in the information & communications industry? Will it be the mobile apps, the cloud, the internet of things or something else?

Google TV 2.0 Update To Arrive Next Week

When the launch of Google TV was announced there was a great optimism from Technorati and no one knows what went wrong that this did not make in the market as big as this was expected following the grand success of Android. Despite launching Google TV with Logitech and Sony as key partners, they did not have the take off as expected and Google announced that early next week it will launch a major software update intended to significantly improve the functionality of the Google TV software. Google admits that Google TV has had its problems, but with this update they hope to address some of them and owners of Sony’s Google TV-equipped televisions will see the update as early as next week, Logitech Revue owners will have to wait until soon thereafter…………………

Google Opens Wallet To New Jersey Transit

NJ Governor Chris Christie announced that the third largest transit system in the country has partnered with Google to bring their wireless Wallet payment system to bus routes and rail lines in the Northeast, customers will be able to tap their Nexus S 4Gs at a handful of venues to fast-track their daily commute. Integrating contactless payments into transit systems certainly isn’t a new concept, but it’s one that’s expected to drive NFC adoption in areas where public transport is a way of life and commuters will be able to use the handset to quickly purchase tickets in a tap-and-go fashion at New York Penn Station, Newark Liberty International Airport Rail Station and several bus lines including the 120, 87, 81, 80, 43, 6 and 126……………….

Google Third Quarter 2011 Financial Report

Google’s 2011 third quarter earnings results are in and the company is reporting $9.72 billion in revenue, which is a 33 percent increase from the same quarter last year. GAAP net income came in at $2.73 billion, up from $2.17 billion a year ago and Google-owned sites continued to generate the largest chunk of revenue with $6.74 billion, followed by Google’s partner sites revenues, such as through the AdSense program of $2.6 billion. During the company’s earnings call, CEO Larry Page confirmed that there’s now 190 million Android phones activated around the world and 200 million users of the Chrome web browser…………………
