Apple’s Safari accounted for 53 percent of web browser usage on mobile devices and tablets in August, more than 30 percentage points ahead of the nearest competitor Opera Mini. Much of the success of mobile Safari can be attributed to the popularity of the iPad and recent studies show that most people with an iPad use it primarily as a web browser. It’s so popular as a browser that the iPad grabs 25% of US mobile browser market and 2% of the overall browser market, on the otherside Android has yet to produce a competitive tablet and most measurable web browsing activity is coming from smartphones. Android Still Leads ComScore Repots

ComScore calls Android top dog, Apple pulls further ahead of RIM and one in four phones in the United States is a Samsung device, with Android gaining ground, as BlackBerrys lose out to cheaper handsets. Google at an impressive 15% increase to top the chart at 41.8% market share followed by the usual suspects, RIM in third at 21.7% (down 5%), and Microsoft at 5.7% (down 1%) and Apple’s market share among mobile OEMs is also on the increase, growing 1.2% to capture 9.5% of the market…………….

Apple Working For New Features In iOS Location Services

Apple is working on exciting new features for iOS location services reveals a job posting for an iOS QA Location Engineer and the job posting obviously doesn’t mention what the feature are. A few Apple patent filings have surfaced recently that might offer a glimpse at what the company is planning and earlier this month a patent filing revealed that Apple is looking into improve Maps by implementing schematic maps that distort data to emphasize more important areas and deemphasize areas that are less important. The posting also requests applicants to have familiarity with typical sensors in mobile devices, namely GPS chips as well as navigation algorithms and suggesting that Apple might be looking into developing its own turn-by-turn navigation technology, similar to the one provided in Google Maps………………

iTunes Match Beta Is Available For Developers

Apple has released a new version of iTunes for developer testing of the functionality of iCloud’s new iTunes Match feature for storing songs in the cloud for flexible access from mobile devices and iTunes 10.5 beta 6.1 with iTunes Match which’ll let you sign up for a yearly $24.99 fee. iTunes Match first scans your library and compiles a list of songs from what it finds, doesn’t matter if it’s a song you’ve bought through iTunes, one you’ve ripped from a CD, torrented or even made yourself.
