Apple and Samsung have been locked in a fierce legal battle. And this legal battle is not confined to one place or region but is being played out in a number of places, most notable U.S. and European countries. Whereas Apple scored a victory against Samsung recently by nearly having its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet banned from U.S., Samsung has also been able to bag a victory.
This victory for Samsung comes from Holland. Both companies had been entangled in a legal feud over 3G patents. And the outcome of the case is definitely not what Apple was expecting.
So far, Apple has been on the better end, having successfully pursued Samsung over its patent infringements in a number of places. But this one is a huge victory for Samsung. A court in Netherlands has now ruled that over the case of 3G patents, Apple is the one at fault and that Samsung stand victorious.
As a result of this court decision, Apple will have to dish out a cool 5 million euros to Samsung. Given Apple’s huge fortunes, this shouldn’t be a problem at all. Rather, a hurt pride and the record of having lost a significant case to Samsung is what would matter to Apple. Nonetheless, we can expect some appeals to originate from Apple over this ruling, if there is a possibility.
