ASUS showed off a shape-shifting device, ASUS Padfone during MWC 2012. It was an impressive piece of hardware from ASUS and although ASUS hasn’t officially revealed the pricing details of the device yet, a retailer claimed that the device will cost £700 which roughly translates to some $1,100. Naturally, that was enough to quell all interests of most prospective users. However, ASUS has now debunked the claim by the retailer and says that it hasn’t officially released any pricing details yet.
ASUS was quick to debunk such rumors precisely because it may have diverted off the prospective users before the device even became available. The major turn-off, of course, is the price. With so many awesome gadgets and devices available in the market at nearly half the rumored price, barely any users would have gone for it.
So according to an official statement, ASUS replied to the rumor as “ASUS is yet to announce pricing and availability of the ground-breaking and shape-shifting PadFone – anything to the contrary is merely rumours and speculation. We will be announcing details with our carrier partners in due course, so keep an eye out for updates on the official ASUS website and social media pages for more information as and when it is available.”
This essentially means that the actual price of Padfone will be much less than £700 or ASUS wouldn’t have fell the need to issue a statement debunking it. That’s good news for prospective buyers.
