Facebook Chat Connects With Other IM Platforms

The guys at Facebook announced on their blog yesterday that their chat client has been integrated with various other popular instant messaging clients, including AOL, iChat, Pidgin, Adium, Miranda and a few more.

Facebook users can now keep in touch with their buddies even if they are no longer logged in to Facebook. Chat messages from Facebook can now be sent to your friend’s desktop instant messaging client, provided they use one of the many clients listed above.

This new feature was developed using the popular open messaging protocol Jabber XMPP. To start using this service, go here, click “Connect your Client”, choose whichever IM client you want to use and follow the instructions.
