Google Censorship In China

Google has been developing an App that will restrict search results related to human rights, democracy, protest and every other sensitive issue.

The App has been in development since Spring of Last Year. But it picked up the pace after a meeting between Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai and a Top Chinese Government Official.

But, why did Google feel the need to launch a censored version of its Search Engine? Well, its the price they have to pay for getting into China. In fact, if plans work out fine, Google will operate in China for the first time in a decade. Currently, people cannot access Google from China. And it’s because of the Great Firewall.

Google Censorship In China

People from Google have already created such an App for demonstration purpose. There are actually two versions to it- Maotai and Longfei. Google has already demonstrated the version to the Chinese Government. Hopefully, the App will be made available to the public within six to nine months.

Google is not the only online platform blocked in China. To name a few, the Wall Street Journal and New York Times are also subject to the same fate. In fact, people cannot access popular Social Media platforms i.e. Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter in China.

How Will The App Work?

The App will work in compliance with the policies of China. The App will automatically identify and block websites that are filtered by the Great Firewall. Furthermore, banned Websites will not be included in the Google Search Results. Although a disclaimer will be posted stating “some results may have been removed due to statutory requirements.”
