Google+ Chief Vic Gundotra Quits Google, Reason Unknown

Vic Gundotra is the father of Google+. He has been working in Google for the last 8 years. But yesterday, all on a sudden he announced that he is leaving Google.

Gundotra wrote, “I have been incredibly fortunate to work with the amazing people of Google. I don’t believe there is a more talented and passionate collection of people anywhere else. And I’m overwhelmed when I think about the leadership of Larry Page and what he empowered me to do while at Google. From starting Google I/O, to being responsible for all mobile applications, to creating Google+, none of this would have happened without Larry’s encouragement and support.”

On the other side, Google’s CEO Larry Page has praised Gundotra in his own Google+ post, thanking him for “a tremendous almost eight years at Google” and for building Google+ “from nothing.” Page also mentioned that it would be tough for Google to handle the situation at present, but Google will continue “working hard to build great new experiences for the ever increasing number of Google+ fans.” Page also mentioned that Google would “continue to invest in Google+.”

However, why all on a sudden Gundotra announced to quit Google is still unknown, but a person familiar with the matter has mentioned that Gundotra had problems with Google’s management team. Apart from this, it’s unclear where Gundotra is going next or who will take over his position at Google as Gundotra says he is “looking forward to the journey yet to come.”

Loved the concepts behind Wave and Google+ but didn’t like what Google did with it.
