Rovio, the developer of the wildly popular Angry Birds franchise, has been making a lot of headlines lately. It was able to register record-high downloads of its Angry Birds Space release. The company has been building upon the success of Angry Birds and has now decided to release 52 weekly episodes of an Angry Birds cartoon series later this year.
While some may think that Rovio is perhaps taking the Angry Birds craze bit too far, the fact is that the users want more and more of it. And with each new release related to the franchise, they just can’t have enough of it.
So now, Rovio is planning to launch a cartoon series of Angry Birds. The series will comprise of 52 episodes which will each be two-and-a-halt to three minutes long. The company intends to possibly launch the series with a video app of its own and reach maximum possible platforms where it could be viewed. In the words of Rovio’s head of animation, Nick Dorra, ‘We’re going to roll it out on all possible devices. We’re looking at building a video app for that, and we’re also looking at partnerships and so on… We want to be on all screens.’
Animation is one of the chief strengths of Rovio and so far, the company has been showing it off in the game alone. Now, however, we can expect it to manifest in a cartoon series which sure would be fun to see. There have also been rumors of an Angry Birds movie but Dorra says we will have to wait for quite sometime before we could lay our eyes on it, ‘It’s in development, but it won’t be out in 2013 or 2014. You’ll have to bide your time and first watch all of our shorts.’
