Android Apps Coming To Blackberry Playbook By Late Fall

RIM previously announced that its Playbook tablet would be able to run Android apps by the summer, but now this highly anticipated feature of the Blackberry slate now won’t arrive until late fall and i think the Playbook needs this new lease of Android life as soon as possible. The PlayBook is really suffering from lack of apps still and it’s pretty much gimped when untethered to a BlackBerry phone………….

One of the things that gave hope to Blackberry Playbook users is the promised Android Player, a software emulator for Android 2.3 Gingerbread which is supposed to allow any of those apps to run on the QNX operating system of RIM’s 7 inch tablet. Unfortunately it’s already August and the Android Player was not released officially, even if an earlier leak suggested it’s almost ready for showtime. Now it seems a trustworthy source pointed to some delays in the development of this Android software emulator, so that the official release date was moved back to Late Fall, which means October/November time-frame. That’s not good news and might indicate some problems with licensing. Not only that, but rumors say the Blackberry Playbook 2 tablet is already in works, in an advanced stage, so that by late fall we might actually see it in shops, running by default the Android Player. If RIM was in such an advanced stage with the Playbook 2 and probably the company would have presented it officially to the press. Announcing a the Playbook 2 before the official retail debut is good for business, increasing stock value and building up momentum.
