Mass Production Of 8Gb DRAM By Samsung To Boost Android Mobiles

Samsung has announced the mass production of 8Gb low powered double data rate 4 (LPDDR4) mobile DRAM as per Samsung Electronics Official Global Blog – Samsungtomorrow. So we can hope for 4GB RAM in our Smartphones and tablets very soon. The production will be based on its flagship 20nm process technology which will support UHD video recording and playback and continuous shooting of high-resolution images with over 20 megapixels. It’s a great news for high end Android devices to play games and taking high resolution pictures and much more to come in the next few years. It is expected that this mass production will boost the sales of Android devices (Smartphones and Tablets).

Samsung is undoubtedly the market leader in the DRAM technology for its continuous innovation of new memory technology. They are the pioneer of the first commercial development of 8Gb LPDDR4 Mobile DRAM. The best part is that 8Gb LPDDR4 chip will double the performance than 4Gb LPDDR3 which is considered as fastest so far for mass production.

By initiating production of the 20nm 8Gb LPDDR4, which is even faster than the DRAM for PCs and servers and consumes much less energy, we are contributing to the timely launch of UHD, large-screen flagship mobile devices,” said Joo Sun Choi, Executive Vice President of Memory Sales and Marketing at Samsung Electronics. “As this major advancement in mobile memory demonstrates, we will continue to closely collaborate with global mobile device manufacturers to optimize DRAM solutions, making them suitable for next-generation mobile OS environments.”

The 8Gb LPDDR4 Mobile DRAM will consume less power for which we hope for some battery savings for our mobiles. As per the claim, the mass production of 8Gb DRAM may result in the mass integration of Android Tablets and Smartphones.
