iOS 6.1 Bug Leads AOL Corporate To Disable iPhone-Based Meeting Management

Recently, it was reported that Apple’s support forums were fraught with users complaining about the bugs they were facing after installing iOS 6.1. Primary among these is the issue of battery drainage and overheating. But corporate entities such as AOL are facing other problems while using iOS 6.1. As a result, AOL has disabled iPhone-based meeting management.

The chief problem that AOL seems to be facing is that the enterprise mail environment of the company is getting unusually high amounts of traffic. Most of this traffic is coming from iOS devices running the 6.1 update. The issue has been identified as the ability of iOS devices to endlessly loop when synchronizing a recurring calendar meeting invitation.

As a result, these iOS devices keep accessing the mail environment over and over again, hiking the overall traffic. As a result of this nuisance, AOL has disabled the ability to manage calendar meetings via mobile devices and has dished out an official statement which reads thus,

“While our team continues to work productively and rapidly with Apple and Microsoft to resolve the issue, it has been necessary to temporarily disable the ability to accept or manage calendar meetings using mobile devices to ensure that we maintain the integrity of our corporate enterprise messaging platform. Since this change is limited to managing calendar invitations, by disabling them temporarily we allow our employees to continue to experience the excellent productivity these devices bring to our enterprise until this issue is resolved.”

It remains to be seen how Apple responds to this. Before this, we saw individuals complaining about problems in iOS 6.1. But now that a corporate entity has stomped down its foot, Apple may be quicker in rolling out an update to the firmware.
