Analyst Says iPhone 5 Has Mixed Demand

Although Apple’s past iPhone models have been exceptionally successful in sustaining high demand over the months, iPhone 5 may fall short of this. According to an Oppenheimer analyst, Ittai Kidron, there has been mixed demand for iPhone 5 in recent months, although the demand for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S has been rather steady.

The trend can be explained in the light of a number of factors. Since Apple is expected to launch a new iPhone in September, it is possible that the customers are now shy of purchasing an expensive iPhone 5 which will soon lose the crown of the being the latest from Apple.

The steady demand for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S is even less of a surprise, given that the launch of iPhone 5 has resulted in significant cuts in their prices. Customers are satisfied with getting a less cutting-edge iPhone experience by paying a lot less for an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S unit.

In light of his analysis, Kidron states that Apple is expected to ship out 26 million iPhone units this quarter. He further  stated that the launch of a new iPhone in September may hike up the overall iPhone sales of the next quarter. However, that can’t be said for sure and it depends entirely on the kind of product Apple may come out with in September.

Such estimates by analysts are putting an increasingly greater pressure on Apple to devise the next iPhone as a product that will truly mesmerize the customers. The competition from Samsung is also growing fierce and the iPhone-maker desperately needs a break in the smartphone market.
