Sony has unveiled its new flagship smartphone called Sony Xperia Z1 (codename Honami) at IFA 2013. It seems like Sony has focused on imaging capabilities. Besides, Sony has also developed some softwares to improve picture-taking.
The Sony Xperia Z1 is a strong competitor in the high end smartphone market as it packs with powerful features with great design. Xperia Z1 features Sony’s award-winning “G Lens” with a 27 mm wide angle and bright F2.0 aperture, custom made large 1/2.3-type CMOS image sensor Exmor RS for mobile with 20.7 MP camera and a BIONZ for mobile image processing engine. The camera also has Sony’s Timeshift function which allows the user to take 61 images in 2 seconds.
Additionally, the mobile phone has the option of adding external QX10 and QX100 lenses to give the Z1 some serious optical zoom. The QX100 comes with a 20 MP camera, 1-inch sensor with 3.6x zoom and a ISO value of 6400. It will retail for $499. And the QX 10 will be a cheaper one. It will offer better zoom capabilities, up to 10x, but slightly lower image quality due to its 1/2.3-inch sensor and the maximum ISO value of 3200. It will be available with a retail for $250.
Other features includes a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor that clocked at 2.2 GHz quad-core CPU, 2 GB of RAM and Flash memory up to 16 GB. Beside there is an expansion slot for microSD card (up to 64 GB), plus fully integrated with latest GPU and dual ISP for incredible graphics that allows users to play 3D games and videos. The Xperia Z includes a 3000 mAh battery for a high battery performance which features STAMINA Mode that automatically turns off functions and apps to save power when you are not using them. Sony Xperia Z1 comes in a premium casing that measures at 170 grams with dimensions of 144 mm x 74 mm x 8.5 mm. This smartphone is completely waterproof.
Sony also added cloud capabilities with the device. Sony Xperia Z1 will be able to save all your photos in Sony’s PlayMemories Online. That means users will be able to access them from any device. But this service is available in some countries (Germany, France, the UK, the US, Canada, and Japan) for now.
The phone is set to launch this month, and those who will be buying in Germany will receive free content with the phone which costs around 100 euros to get a pass to see the movie Elysium, too.
