Those following Facebook closely may have noticed the recent talks involving the addition of a “Want” button into the social network. Facebook has officially announced that the Want button is in testing phases. The social giant is working closely with multiple retailers to integrate this feature into its network. Recent reports have indicated that Facebook would enter the e-commerce market via user wish lists created by the Want button.
The Facebook Want button was discovered in the late parts of June when developers were scavenging through the Facebook JavaScript SDK (Software Development Kit). At the time, Facebook wasn’t interested in revealing plans involving the future — thus the buzz around “Want” feature wasn’t stirred up.
With the Want feature nearing a release phase, Facebook has announced their joint forces with Pottery Barn, Victoria’s Secret, Neiman Marcus, and four others. The upcoming test phase will permit users to want, collect, or like an item. Business Insider was told, “the feature does not extend off Facebook.com through the web the way social plugins (the Like button) do.”
Here’s what Facebook had to say:
“Today, we are beginning a small test in which a few select businesses will be able to share information about their products through a feature called Collections. Collections can be discovered in news feed, and people will be able to engage with these collections and share things they are interested in with their friends. People can click-through and buy these items off of Facebook.”
Facebook is trying to find ways to better-themselves on a daily basis, both in terms of user satisfaction and revenue generation. At this point they feel the e-commerce market has huge potential.
