Google Now Redirects Picasa Photo Galleries To Google+ Photos

Google’s Picasa photo sharing service has been a great platform for sharing photos. We’ve known for some time that Google would be transitioning users away from its Picasa photo-sharing service to Google+ Photos. Seems like that process has taken been to the next stage. Google is now redirecting users from Picasa photo galleries to Google+ photos.

Google Redirecting Picasa Photo Galleries To Google+ Photos

Google has started to redirect users from the old Picasa URL (picasweb.google.com) to Google+ Photos. In other words, now the URL http://picasaweb.google.com no longer brings you to Picasa Web Albums but instead redirects you to Google+ Photos. No worries. Google knows that users often react negatively to changes like this, so it has included an option to switch back to the old Picasa interface.

Users can simply return to the old Picasa Web Albums by clicking “Click here to go back to Picasa Web Albums” (shown in above image) or simply write the URL https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/myphotos?noredirect=1. Users just need to enter that ‘no redirect’ URL once. After doing so for the first time, Google sets a cookie automatically that turns off the redirection. Later when users will visit their Picasa photo album pages, they won’t be redirected to Google+ Photos.

Despite Picasa still living on, it’s clear that Google wants to promote Google+ as much as possible and get users away from its older services that may get superseded down the line. The good news is that the company is not forcing users to sign up to Google+ if they want to continue using Picasa. If you don’t have a Google+ account, you can keep using Picasa the same as always.
