India Overtakes US As The Top Source Of Spam

Spamming is a popular internet activity that is abhorred by most of us but which, nonetheless, continues to be many people’s job. Junk email, in specific, is being used to spread spam and this mode of spamming is still very popular. Now, according to research by IT security company Sophos, India has overtaken US in being the source of junk email and is currently leading on that list.

However, there is a very important reason why the bulk of spam is beginning to be originated from growing economics. According to a senior technology consultant at Sophos, ‘The latest stats show that, as more first-time internet users get online in growing economies, they are not taking measures to block the malware infections that turn their PCs into spam-spewing zombies.’

This is quite often for inexperienced users who usually can’t stand what is authentic from what is spam and end up hitting malicious links which then compromises their machines and brings them into the realm of bot net networks. These networks then make use of these machines to send out junk emails in bulk.

According to the statistics gathered by Sophos, currently, about 9.3% of all junk email globally goes through Indian computers. Second in number is US with 8.3% share followed by South Korea with its 5.7%.

However, there has been a decline in the overall junk messages sent out this year. How can this be possible? Quite probably became spammers are not targeting social media venues to send out the junk messages to the audience.
