Developer Revenue in iAd Increased To 70% By Apple

Apple’s mobile advertising network, iAd, hasn’t been a singular success since its launch in 2010. Due to the rather lukewarm response towards it, Apple has been considering a number of changes to the network. And now, the company has announced that the share of the developers using iAd has been increased from the earlier 60% to 70%.

Mobile advertising is a very lucrative business and unfortunately for Apple, so far one that the company hasn’t been able to crack. Consequently, a number of other mobile advertising platforms are far more popular and successful than Apple’s iAd. These latest developments by Apple are aimed at improving that and increasing the interest of developers in iAd.

According to Apple’s official developer center:

‘Developer Advertising Services Agreement Update

We have made the following changes to the Developer Advertising Services Agreement for the iAd Network, effective immediately.

  • The revenue share for the iAd Network is now 70% to the Developer.’

This isn’t the first change that Apple has introduced in iAd. It has been pushing hard for quite some time to make iAd a success. For instance, when Apple launched iAd, the minimum threshold sum to launch a mobile campaign through iAd was $1 million. Apple has been gradually reducing it so much so that now, one can launch a mobile campaign through iAd for as little as $100,000. But will this and such other reforms in iAd by Apple be able to tip the balances in Apple’s favor? We will have to wait and see.
