Amazon’s CEO Wants Governments To Intervene And End Patent Wars

Currently, nearly every tech titan is engaged with a number of patent disputes with many other tech giants. In fact, over time, it has become more of a trend to file a few patent lawsuits over any new technology patented by a company. And that is essentially eating away the spirit of innovation. Amazon’s CEO thinks that its time the governments stepped in to resolve this issue.

Jeff Bezos

In a recent interview, Amazon’s CEO, Jeff Bezos, said that the virtually infinite patent disputes between tech companies are promoting a culture where innovation is taking a back-seat. And this, he think, can be very injurious to the tech industry in the long run.

To resolve the whole issue of patent disputes, Bezos thinks that the governments must step in. According to him, “Governments may need to look at the patent system and see if those laws need to be modified because I don’t think some of these battles are healthy for society.”

According to him, the real intent of patents was to promote innovation by letting an inventor think that his product, or idea, was safe once he registered it. But the dubious patent laws have turned it all into a murky arena where multiple patents overlap each other and even the patent issuing authorities don’t really know what to do about it.

His suggestion that governments may intervene to bring all parties to a cease fire certainly appeals to common sense. If such a measure is taken today, it would bolster innovation sky high, across the board for all companies. Yet, given the number of legal complications involved in enacting such an idea, we may still have to put up with the patent wars for some time.
