Apple has a knack of cutting down on the supply volume of a device as a pre-emptive move for the launch of a new iteration of the device, or a new device in it’s place. We have often seen device vanishing off Apple’s shelves when a new device in it’s place is to be launched. So usually, supply constraints usually hint that we are nearing the release of a new Apple device. According to numerous reports, right now Apple TV devices are out of stock with a number of retailers. This necessarily means that Apple is planning to launch a new model of Apple TV in it’s place.
Best Buy, one of the most well-known retailers, just reported that it can no longer provide Apple TV. According to a source from Best Buy,
“A customer was inquiring tonight about Apple TV. However right now we are out of stock (Which hasn’t happened since I started). Not only were we out of stock, but I was also unable to order one from our product ordering system (OMS). Product was listed as ‘currently unavailable’. From prior experience, this usually is associated with a product that is being ‘discontinued’.”
The case is by no means limited to just Best Buy. A number of other main retailers, for instance Amazon, Target and Walmart are also out-of-stock on the device because they are no longer being supplied the device. This quite clearly indicates that Apple has new plans for Apple TV up it’s sleeves and we may expect a new model of Apple TV to hit the shelves soon. According to the hints in iOS firmware 5.1, we may expect to see an Apple TV device code-named J33, to soon replace the present model of Apple TV.
