Firefox For Windows 8 Coming In Late 2012

Mozilla Firefox has been facing tough times of late. It’s growth has slumped and Google Chrome has overtaken it as the second most used browser. However, the developers of the browser are now gearing up to launch a version of the browser for the next big thing in OS world from Microsoft, Windows 8. According to an announcement from Firefox, the browser’s version for Windows 8’s metro interface is coming in second quarter of 2012. Initially, alpha and beta versions will be released and eventually, the full version will be released in the second half of 2012.

Microsoft aims to revolutionize the world of operating systems with it’s new flagship OS, Windows 8. Specifically, Microsoft is betting heavy on the metro-style interface of Windows 8 and aims to develop an entire ecosystem about it.

The news are that folks at Firefox are now gearing up to try and break into this new platform. Development is hot on a version of Mozilla Firefox that would run on Windows 8 metro interface. According to the official statement from Firefox, “Firefox on Metro, like all other Metro apps will be full screen, focused on touch interactions, and connected to the rest of the Metro environment through Windows 8 contracts.”

To stay in the competition, Mozilla will have to develop a Firefox version for metro-mode of Windows 8. Windows 8 will also offer a classic interface for apps that are old-style and Firefox has plans to be compatible with that mode too. But if developers at Firefox decide to go only with the classic interface of Windows 8, that’ll definitely be one step closer to failure for the browser.
