At its annual Google I/O developer conference on Thursday (28 June), Google revealed the number of its Gmail users, and Google Apps used by companies and universities. The number that Google mentioned certainly defines the popularity of Google’s Gmail and Google App. In fact, Google now has become the world’s most used mail service.
Google announced that at present, 425 million people use Gmail, 5 million businesses and 66 out of the top 100 universities use Google Apps. In fact, government agencies in 45 states of U.S. prefer to use Google. Google also said that more than 5 million businesses (large companies) like Roche, KLM have now “gone Google.”
Sunder Pichai, Google’s Senior Vice President for Chrome and Apps noted that “the web has changed since 2004.” At present, Gmail has overtaken Microsoft’s Hotmail as the world’s most used mail service. To be noted that, according to Google, it had just 350 million active users in January, 2012.
