Given the sheer bulk of services provided by Google, and the user data gathered and processed by it, the company has always had a knack for huge facilities. It has now finalized a deal to move its UK headquarters to a new facility which will be a lot larger than its current campus. The new facility will be completed by 2016, which is when the Google UK headquarters will be shifted there.
Google has been seeking out an alternate facility for its UK headquarters for quite some time. The company has now settled for a 2.4 acre site at King’s Cross which is part of the North London. Google coughed up a whopping £1 billion to seal the deal.
The site will be set up with two multi-storey Google complexes. One of them will be a seven-story complex whereas the other will be an 11-story complex. According to Google, the new facility will be up and ready by 2016 and it is then that the search giant would move its headquarters.
This is among one of the largest land-purchases by Google recently. Speaking about the finalization of the deal, Google’s Vice President for Northern and Central Europe, Mr Brittin said, “This is a big investment by Google. We’re committing further to the UK, where computing and the web were invented.”
Currently, the company’s UK offices are located at Victoria and Holborn.
