The first Honeycomb-powered 7-inch tablet from Viewsonic is actually on its way and Viewsonic’s new slate would run Google Android 2.3.3, but then it was not to be so.Viewsonic ViewPad 7x Android tablet is expected to dominate over the company’s present 7-inch model the ViewPad 7. The release will most probably happen later this month at the annual Computex conference in Taipei.ViewPad 7x has a 7-inch display , an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and cameras in front and back and also an HDMI output, DLNA support and HSPA+ connectivity, hinting at potential 4G options on AT&T or T-Mobile.Then name suggests that its a successor to ViewSonic‘s less than impressively spec’d ViewPad 7 tablet which offers a 600MHz processor, 512MB of RAM and Android 2.2. In terms of its design leaked pictures depict a noticeably different device to the ViewPad 7 with a larger bezel and unique, though not necessarily attractive, triangular pattern on the back.Currently there are three ViewSonic tablets on sale in the US, the ViewPad 7 which costs around $289.99, the 10-inch ViewSonic gTablet with a price tag of $309.99 and the most expensive of the bunch at $580 the dual-booting ViewPad 10. So far the tablets have proved average offerings with the dual-booting device featuring some innovation but being let down by only running Android 1.6 (though an upgrade to 2.2 is now available). If the ViewPad 7x could deliver with its hardware and be priced more reasonably than the Flyer then it may well remove some of the wind beneath the wings of HTC‘s tablet.
