The Pirate Bay Contemplates Launching Flying Computers Over International Waters

Content producers from around the globe, mostly only the major ones, are getting increasingly fierce in their attempts to shut down websites containing pirated content. Whereas SOPA and PIPA haven’t worked, FBI and governments in Europe are actively cracking down on piracy websites. The Pirate Bay, one of the largest torrents hub online, is at the nexus of this storm. So now, TPB is planning to launch flying computers atop drones over international waters so that governments couldn’t shut down the services.

The admin of the TPB website touts it to be ‘the galaxy’s most resilient system.’ And it would seem that there claim is being tested. TPB has been reported to be shifting its servers from place to place to stay up and running as Swedish government cracked down on it and then Russia refused to let it install its servers in the country.

Apparently tired of this whole charade and the constant push from content producers to shut down, folks at TPB have divulged in a recent blog post that they are contemplating launching such drones who would carry their computers over international waters so that access to TPB is not hindered in any way.

Can this be done? Yes. How? Well…for this, computers and radio devices will have to be mounted atop drones which will then be launched into the air. For computers, TPB says it may make use of the tiny Raspberry Pi. TPB claims that with these Low Orbit Server Stations and with the help of modern radio transmitters, users can still get over 100 Mbps per note up to 50km away.

The continuing legal battle against piracy doesn’t seem to have discouraged TPB the least bit and they do seem very adamant (rightfully say, if I may say) in persisting in their attempts to keep internet free and open to content-sharing.
