Apple’s filings with FCC scarcely allow us to get a glimpse of any new plans that the company may have. A new FCC filing about an Apple TV with model number A1469 seems to hint at a new model of the product. Apparently, this model is equipped with a new antenna as well as a faster CPU.
This is not the first hint that we have seen regarding a possibly upcoming Apple TV model. Recently, the download options of the Apple TV software update started hinting at an ‘Apple TV 3,2’ model. Could it be that the model shown off in the software update is the same as that contained in this FCC filing?
The A1469 model that is contained in the FCC filing looks more or less the same as the current model. However, in terms of size, it is smarter. While the current model scales 98mm square in its measurement, the one depicted in the filing is measured at 93.78mm.
The model packs the same Wi-Fi capabilities as the current Apple TV model. Interestingly, the source code of the filings page contains hints about a new single antenna, much like in many other Apple devices. That is certainly a new feature for an Apple TV model and seems to substantiate the speculation that Apple may have plans of launching A1469 in the coming days.
To top things up, the source code also refers to an updated A5X chip, which means that the new model may pack a faster CPU. Whereas all this remains more or less speculation, it may not be too odd to expect Apple to release the same model in the near future.
