GSM Arena has reported that Gigabyte Communications is preparing to release the Google Dual SIM Smartphone GSmart Rola. The Taiwanese company has a five-year experience in the smartphone business and is well-known for its collaboration with Microsoft.
Feature
Two slots for SIM cards and the ability to operate simultaneously on two cellular networks. Moreover, the model doesn’t only support GSM network, but also UMTS / HSDPA (most likely for one SIM only). It must be recalled that the company already has a device by the name of GSmart S1205 with such feature. However, it runs on operating system Windows Mobile 6.5, but the new one will be based on Android 2.2 platform.
Gigabyte GSmart Rola is equipped with 3.2-inch resistive touch screen with 240 × 400 pixels (WQVGA), 256 MB RAM and 512 MB of internal memory, a slot for MicroSD flash card, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, GPS, electronic compass, a fixed focus 3-megapixel camera and FM-tuner.
The Android-powered smartphone is expected to be launched at the beginning of 2011 in “select regions,” which probably means Europe and a few Asian countries.
Gigabyte Gsmart Rola will be purchasable for around EUR 175 (about $230) without subscription, which is $50 cheaper than the Optimus One.
